For this cosplay, I wanted to create an Anakin Skywalker costume for my boyfriend, inspired by his darker and more intense look from Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and The Clone Wars Season 7. This project was special to me because he is a huge Star Wars fan, and Anakin has always been one of the most iconic characters to him — after all, he is the Chosen One.
We started the costume together by going fabric shopping and choosing materials that would fit Anakin’s Jedi look while still giving it that slightly darker, more dramatic feeling. Most of the costume was handmade, especially the layered tunic pieces and the overall structure of the outfit. I worked with different dark fabrics and leather-like details to create the right silhouette and make the costume recognizable from the first glance.
The shoes, gloves and lightsaber were bought, but they helped complete the look perfectly. Details like the dark glove, the belt, the robe-inspired layers and the lightsaber were really important because they are such strong parts of Anakin’s design. The belt was one of the biggest challenges, together with the sewing itself, since the whole outfit needed to sit properly and still be comfortable to wear.
I worked on the costume for around two to three weeks, adjusting and improving pieces step by step. Seeing him wear it at Comic Con and later during the shooting made all the effort worth it. It was really fun to create something for someone who loves the character so much, and I’m very happy with how powerful and recognizable the final look turned out.
